Description Provide health care service to children including:
- Well visits
- Immunizations
- Acute care visits
- Sick care
- Sports physicals Nearly 10,000 children in Oakland
County are without health care coverage. For many of our youth, the POH
Children's Health Services is their only resource for much needed
medical attention.
Opened in 1995 and the only one of its kind in the county, the POH Children's Health Services provides free health care services to more than 2,500 patients each year. Children from birth through 18 years of age receive acute and preventative health care services, including wellness exams, immunizations and specialty care.
Over
the past 13 years, we have been able to reduce the number of emergency room visits and significantly raise the rate of immunized children in our community. Because of this, the Children's Health Services has received the Blue Cross Blue Shield Sapphire Award and the Michigan Department of Community Health Recognition Award for improving the health status and well-being of children.
We pride ourselves on treating all children with compassion and respect, while delivering excellent care regardless of their ability to pay. Although the Clinic is a United Way Partner and receives some grant funding, POH Regional Medical Center is still the primary resource for supporting these free services.
Your continued support is so crucial to the health and well-being of our community's children - the faces of the future.
Family Fit Camp
In
2007, the POH Children's Health Services partnered with Medical Weight Loss Clinic to host Family Fit Camp. The two-day camp taught obese children, or children lacking enough physical activity, how to have fun while exercising. The program also taught parents how to help the whole family eat healthier.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, last year 10 families were able to attend the camp free of charge. Choosing from a range of adventurous and entertaining activities, campers hiked and swam their way to a healthier lifestyle!
Hearts of the Future
The POH Children’s Clinic celebrated its 9th Annual “Hearts of the Future” fundraiser with a
crowd of more than 100 guests February 5, 2009 at the Marriott Pontiac at
Centerpoint.
Held each year to benefit less fortunate children in Oakland County, the event attracted many prominent business leaders including Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. Patricia Parker, a member of the Children’s Clinic Advisory Council, served as the Mistress of Ceremonies.
Attendees participated in an exciting silent auction and heard from guest speakers, 14-year-old Quincy Washington and his mother Barbara Washington, who spoke on the impact that the POH Children’s Clinic and the POH Riley Foundation has had on their lives.
