The POH Riley Foundation's Sister & Sister Free Mammogram Program is here to help. We promote breast cancer awareness throughout our community while facilitating mammogram screenings for uninsured, at-risk or low-income women in Oakland County.
In 2007, more than 300 mammograms were facilitated free of charge thanks to the Sister & Sister Free Mammogram Program! We provide peace of mind not only for our sisters, but for the families who love them every day.
In the United States, breast cancer grips more women than any other form of cancer. It is the second deadliest cancer among women, trumped only by lung cancer.
In Michigan, 1 out of every 8 women will develop breast cancer this year. If detected and treated early enough, breast cancer has a 98% survival rate.
Mammogram screenings are essential for early detection. Due to Michigan's current economy and health care trends, countless women can't afford them.
Although more Caucasian women will discover they have breast cancer, more African American & Hispanic women will die from it. This statistic is directly tied to the decreasing availability and rising cost of health care.
As we continue marching into the millennium armed with the generous support of our constituents, the Sister & Sister Free Mammogram Program aims to dramatically increase the number of women who benefit from our services.
